Lars Knudsen: EmpiriKit - cheap education with Raspberry pi and arduino

Imagine if we could come up with a way to help developing regions grow in a
more sustainable way, keeping their talent mass from fleeing out of the
region they grew up in, at the first chance they get, without making the
solution overly expensive - attracting all kinds of corruption and
unnecessary administration.
The empiriKit is mainly based on pure HTML5 WebApps, and aims to strengthen
the education on high-school level by providing easy to use simulations,
exercises, external sensor readings and motor control, directly supporting
the existing curricula. The software is designed to be highly portable and
primary hardware chosen to be very affordable. When running solely on the
Raspberry Pi, there is a Qt5/C++ and QML2 based custom made WebApps centric
browser present to make usage for teachers and students as easy as
possible. The core of the platform is based around Node.js with custom
extensions to provide interfaces between external hardware and JavaScript
in the WebApps.
Another goal of the project is to provide a very easy and accessible
platform to empower entry developers to provide industrial solutions in
their local regions. This can be achieved by letting everyone have easy
access to the source code for all the WebApps exercises and encouraging the
more technically skilled students to modify and experiment with the code to
support local factories and other businesses with otherwise inaccessible
technology.

remember. In 2001, I did my first mobile technology contract and have been
hooked ever since.
Recently, I was part of the team in Nokia, delivering the WebKit2 based web
browser for the Nokia N9. Now, I am working on making the empiriKit a
reality, using the skills I have earned to do some good in the world.
